The Ministry of Textiles, in collaboration with the National Handloom Development Corporation (NHDC), celebrated the 11th National Handloom Day with the launch of an Exclusive Handloom Expo and the “Haat on Wheels” mobile retail initiative at New Delhi’s Janpath.

Ladakh to create First-ever botanical garden for conservation

In eastern Ladakh, Shayok village, situated on the way to Galwan Valley, is working to convert its 10 hectares of barren community land into a botanical garden for the conservation of varieties of fruits, medicinal plants and flora and fauna of Ladakh.

It is being developed as part of the ongoing Go Green Go Organic initiatives in Ladakh. The upcoming botanical garden is planned to be completed by 2029.

Indian study on nutrition’s role in TB outcomes influences WHO global Policy

The World Health Organization, WHO, has said that India’s study that showed the positive impact of nutrition on the outcome of tuberculosis, TB, contributed to global guidance on the world’s most infectious disease.

The study, led by the Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR, and conducted in Jharkhand, provided the first evidence that extra nutrition can significantly reduce TB cases and deaths.

The South-East Asia region which bears the highest burden of TB cases and deaths.


RBI keeps repo rate unchanged at 5.5 percent
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Reserve Bank of India kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.5%, maintaining a neutral stance. Consequently, the standing deposit facility (SDF) rate will be at 5.25 percent and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate at 5.75 per cent.

The RBI retained its FY26 GDP growth forecast at 6.5%.

Inflation for FY26 is projected at 3.1% (lower than June)

CPI (inflation, consumer price) is expected to reach 4.9% in FY27

Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina 2.0 scheme
Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina 2.0 scheme in Guwahati- a monthly financial assistance scheme to increase girls’ enrolment in higher education. A flagship initiative of the Assam government, aims to empower girl students by providing financial support to reduce school dropout rates and promote higher education. Girls from all families, irrespective of their economic condition are eligible for this scheme.

For Higher Secondary – Rs. 10 thousand that is Rs. 1 thousand every month for 10 months.

For Graduation – Rs. 12,500 that is Rs. 1250 for every month for 10 months.

For PG level - Rs. 25,000 that is Rs. 2500 for every month for 10 months.

PM Modi inaugurates Kartavya Bhavan

The ambitious project is aimed at bringing ministries and departments under one roof for efficiency.

Kartavya Bhavan-03, the first to be inaugurated, will house the Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, MSME, DoPT, Petroleum & Natural Gas Ministries, and the Principal Scientific Adviser’s office. It is under the Central Vista project of Central Government.

The world is observing the 80th anniversary of the first use of a nuclear weapon as Hiroshima Day today.

On this day in 1945, the United States dropped the first atomic bomb, Codenamed ‘Little Boy’, on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. People across Japan are remembering one of the darkest days in the country’s history.

Three days later, on 09 August, the nearby city of Nagasaki was destroyed by a second US atomic bomb.

According to SIPRI, the world has more than 12,000 nuclear weapons.
