Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauds India’s first green hydrogen plant in port sector at Kandla

  • India’s first indigenously built green hydrogen plant in the port sector has been set up at Kandla in Gujarat, marking the launch of the initial module of a larger 10-Megawatt green hydrogen project.

  • This indigenous electrolyzer technology built  and executed by Indian engineers under the Make‑in‑India program.   It positions Indian industries and ports at the forefront of maritime decarbonisation, showcasing speed, technical skill, and local innovation.

  • The achievement reinforces India’s ambitions under the Maritime India Vision 2030 and the National Green Hydrogen Mission, focusing on self-reliance and sustainability.

  • What is Green Hydrogen Plant?

  • A Green Hydrogen Plant is a facility that produces hydrogen gas (H₂) using renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, or hydropower, in a process that emits zero greenhouse gases. Hydrogen is a clean fuel that produces only water when burned.

  • Electrolyzer - Splits water into H₂ and O₂ using electricity

Why Are Green Hydrogen Plants Important?

President of Philippines Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr will arrive in five-day State Visit to India.

  • This will be the first visit of President Marcos to India since assuming office in 2022 and coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations. He is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and other senior officials.

  • Diplomatic relations between India and the Philippines were established in November 1949.

  • The two countries also engage closely at regional level, including through India’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with ASEAN.

  • India’s relations with the Philippines are an integral pillar of the Act East Policy (Vision MAHASAGAR) and the vision of the Indo-Pacific.

Defence & Maritime Security

           Discussion centered on enhancing military cooperation, with the Philippines eyeing additional BrahMos missile systems from India. The visit coincided with the first-ever joint naval sail conducted by India and the Philippines in the South China Sea.

The Krasheninnikov Volcano on Russia erupted for the first time in recorded history

  • It erupted in Kamchatka Peninsula of Russia. The volcano lying dormant for centuries suddenly reactivates. The eruption occurred in a highly volcanic area, part of the Pacific Ring of Fire. The eruption was seen after 600 years.

  • It may be linked to a powerful 8.7 magnitude earthquake and repeated aftershocks in the region which also triggered tsunami warnings. Krasheninnikov’s last known eruption occurred around 1463.

Balochistan rejects Pak’s ‘unlawful directives’, prepares for Independence Day despite restrictions

Delhi Assembly has become paperless

         The Delhi Legislative Assembly has officially become 100% paperless, launching the National e‑Vidhan Application (NeVA) and a 500-kW rooftop solar power plant to power its operations sustainably. It was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal. This transformation coincided with the monsoon session from August 4 to 8, 2025. 

  • Delhi became the first assembly in the country to be 100 percent solar powered.

National e‑Vidhan Application (NeVA)

  • A fully digital platform rolled out via a tripartite MoU between the Delhi Assembly, Delhi government, and Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs in March 2025.

Former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren passes away

  • The Rajya Sabha MP, Shibu Soren had been suffering from a kidney ailment and had suffered a stroke a month and a half ago. 

  • President Murmu said he championed the cause of tribal identity and formation of the state of Jharkhand.

  • Late Shibu Soren was a prominent political leader who served as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand three times.

  • He was the President of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha party and the father of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

Abdulla Aboobacker won the men’s triple jump title

  • Indian athlete and former Asian champion Abdulla Aboobacker won the men’s triple jump title at the Qosanov Memorial 2025 athletics meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan, remains in contention to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, scheduled to take place from September 13 to 21.

Vedika Bhansali wins US Kids World Championship golf

  • India’s Vedika Bhansali emerged champion at the US Kids World Championship golf at Pinehurst Village. Playing in the girls 9-year category. As Vedika picked the gold, another Bengaluru golfer Aida Thimmaiah was third in girls 11 category.

Telangana being named the national leader in organ donation

  • Telangana state has held the maximum number of organ donations in the country. 

  • The Centre has awarded the state government for the same at an event observing the National Organ Donation Day (August 2) in Delhi.

  • National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO) presented an award to Telangana.

  • Telangana recently adopted the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act (THOTA), to ensure equitable access to organs, regardless of a person’s financial status.

  • Organ transplant surgeries are being offered free of cost under the Aarogyasri scheme.

  • World Organ Donation Day is observed on August 13.

  • “Angdaan-Jeevan Sanjeevani Abhiyan” campaign, aimed to raise awareness, dispel myths, and encourage organ donation pledges.
