PM Modi to disburse ₹20,500 cr under PM-KISAN scheme in Varanasi

  • Prime Minister will release the 20th instalment of PM-KISAN from Varanasi, with over ₹20,500 crore to be transferred directly to the bank accounts of more than 9.7 crore farmers across the country. This will push the total disbursement under the scheme beyond ₹3.90 lakh crore.

About Scheme​

  • The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a central

sector scheme launched by the Government of India on

1st February 2019. Its objective is to provide financial assistance to

small and marginal farmers across the country to ensure their financial

needs for agricultural inputs and allied activities.

Key Features:

  • Beneficiary: All landholding farmer families in the country, subject

to certain exclusion criteria.

  • Financial Support: ₹6,000 per year per farmer family.

  • Payment Mode: Paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each every four months.

  • Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT): The amount is transferred directly to the bank accounts of eligible farmers.

Exclusion Criteria:

The following categories are not eligible:

  • Institutional landholders

  • Farmer families with one or more members holding constitutional posts or serving/served as:

  • Ministers, MPs, MLAs

  • Government employees (excluding Class IV/multi-tasking staff)

  • Professionals like doctors, engineers, chartered accountants, etc.

  • Income tax payers in the last assessment year

Implementation & Monitoring:

  • Implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare

  • States/UTs identify eligible farmers and upload their details on the PM-KISAN portal

  • Aadhaar verification is mandatory for availing benefits

Impact:

  • Over 9 crore farmers have benefited (as of July 2025)

  • Boosts farmers' liquidity for agricultural needs

  • Enhances inclusiveness and transparency through DBT

Cabinet approves ₹6,520 crore outlay for Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana

  • The Cabinet has approved a total outlay of 6520 crore rupees, including additional outlay of 1920 crore rupees for ongoing Central Sector Scheme “Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana” during 15th Finance Commission Cycle.

  • Approval includes 1000 crore rupees to support setting up of 50 Multi Product Food Irradiation Units under the component scheme-Integrated Cold Chain and Value Addition Infrastructure, ICCVAI. This also includes setting up of 100 Food Testing Labs with NABL accreditation under the component scheme – Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure, FSQAI

 

About Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY):

  • The Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana (PMKSY) is a comprehensive scheme launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, Government of India, in 2017. SAMPADA stands for Scheme for Agro-Marine Processing and Development of Agro-Processing Clusters. It aims to modernize infrastructure and boost the growth of the food processing sector in India.

Key Objectives:

  • Create modern infrastructure for agro-processing.

  • Reduce post-harvest losses.

  • Ensure better remuneration to farmers.

  • Enhance the value addition in the food sector.

  • Generate employment opportunities in rural areas.

Major Components:

  • Mega Food Parks – Create state-of-the-art processing facilities in a cluster approach.

  • Backward and Forward Linkages – Strengthening linkages between farmers and processors/markets.

  • Food Safety and Quality Assurance Infrastructure – Setting up testing laboratories and quality certification systems.

  • Human Resources and Institutions – Capacity building and skill development.

  • Myanmar’s National Defense and Security Council (NDSC) declared  that it has formed a new Union Government led by U Nyo Saw as Prime Minister, alongside a new State Security and Peace Commission chaired by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing
