Venice Film Festival

Indian filmmaker Anuparna Roy has won Best Director award in the Orizzonti section at the 82nd Venice Film Festival for her film Songs of Forgotten Trees, tells the story of two migrant women in Mumbai.

Vetern U.S. director Jim Jarmusch won festival’s top honor, the Golden Lion for Best Film, for his movie Father Mother Sister Brother.

The Silver Lion runner-up award was given to The Voice of Hind Rajab, directed by Tunisia’s Kaouther Ben Hania.

Tennis Cup - US Open

Carlos Alcaraz won his second U.S. Open men’s singles title by defeating Jannik Sinner and reclaiming the No. 1 ranking in Men’s Tennis. He is 22-year-old, owns six Grand Slam trophies, becoming the first player since 1978 to win multiple majors on all three surfaces before turning 23.

Aryna Sabalenka clinched U.S. Open women’s singles title by defeating Amanda Anisimova.

Asia Cup Hockey

India won their fourth title of the Men’s Asia Cup Hockey Championship by a convincing 4-1 win over South Korea in final at Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar.

India has also qualified for the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026 in the Netherlands and Belgium.

FIDE Grand Swiss 2025

Divya Deshmukh scored her first win in the open category of the FIDE Grand Swiss 2025 in Uzbekistan, defeating Egyptian GM Bassem Amin.

Archery World Championships

India’s men’s compound archery team made history by winning its first-ever gold medal at the World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, edging France in final.

The mixed team of Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Rishabh Yadav settled for silver after losing to the Netherlands.

28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships

India will host the 28th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Team Championships in Bhubaneswar.

It will feature men’s and women’s team competitions. It will also serve as a qualifier for the 2026 ITTF World Team Championships, with the top 13 teams from each category earning spots.
