India has emerged as the world’s 5th biggest aviation market

India has emerged as the world’s fifth-biggest aviation market in 2024, while Mumbai-Delhi was one of the busiest airport pairs in 2024.
-
This was stated by the International Airport Transport Association (IATA), which has released the latest edition of the World Air Transport Statistics (WATS) for 2024.
-
According to the report, a growth of 11.1 per cent compared to 2023, ahead of Japan.
-
The US remains the world’s biggest aviation market; China was the second biggest and UK and Spain at 3rd and 4th spots respectively.
-
Among the top 10 airport pairs, Mumbai-Delhi was the 7th busiest.

Pariksha Pe Charcha’ Sets Guinness World Record

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s flagship initiative, Pariksha Pe Charcha has been conferred with the Guinness World Record for the ‘Most people registered on a Citizen Engagement Platform in one month.

This recognition is a testament of achievement made with three crore 53 lakh registrations during the 8th edition of the programme, hosted on the MyGov platform.
First BIMSTEC Traditional Music Festival
The first-ever BIMSTEC Traditional Music Festival was held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on 04 August. It was organized by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), the festival called ‘SaptaSur: Seven Nations, One Melody’, witnessed the celebration of the distinct musical traditions of the seven BIMSTEC countries.

Parliament Approves Extension of President’s Rule in Manipur
The Parliament has given the statutory resolution regarding the extension of President’s rule in Manipur for a further period of six months with effect from 13th August 2025. The President’s rule was imposed in Manipur on 13th February 2025.

President's Rule refers to the suspension of a state government and the direct administration of the state by the central government under Article 356 of the Indian Constitution.
-
It is imposed when a state government is unable to function according to constitutional provisions.
-
During President’s Rule, the Governor governs the state on behalf of the President, and the state legislature may be either suspended or dissolved.
The rule is valid for 6 months and can be extended up to 3 years with parliamentary approval every 6 months.
Argentina Clinch Double Gold at 2025 Pan American Hockey Cup

Argentina dominated the 2025 Pan American Cup, winning gold in both the men’s and women’s hockey tournaments in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The United States took silver in both categories, while Canada’s men and Uruguay’s women claimed the bronze medals. With these results, Argentina’s men and the USA’s women secured qualification for the 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands.


Russia Officially Ends Commitment to Nuclear Arms Treaty

Russia has officially declared it no longer considers itself bound by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, 1987.

Russia cited recent US military actions as the key reason.
-
These included the deployment of a Typhon missile system in the Philippines and missile drills during the Talisman Sabre exercises in Australia.

The INF Treaty had already weakened after the US withdrew in 2019.

Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi Inaugurates ‘Agnishodh’ Research Cell

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi has inaugurated ‘Agnishodh’, the Indian Army Research Cell at IIT Madras, aimed at turning academic research into defence-ready technologies.

The new research centre will collaborate with IIT Madras Research Park and entities like the Advanced Manufacturing Technology Development Centre (AMTDC) and the Pravartak Technologies Foundation, focusing on converting lab-scale innovations into deployable technologies.

Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)
The Government of India is implementing the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) with effect from 1st January 2017. The PMMVY Scheme is being implemented as per provisions under Section 4 of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.
The scheme provides financial support for pregnant and lactating mothers to improve the health and nutrition for mother and child as well as compensation for wage loss.

Launched by the Government of India, under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Eligible beneficiaries include:

Indian women aged 19 years or older
-
Pregnant for the first time, or pregnant with the second child if it's a girl
-
Not employed in regular government or PSU jobs
-
Not receiving benefits from any similar maternity scheme
-
Pregnancy must have occurred on or after 1 January 2017
Under PMMVY:
-
The first child: ₹5,000 paid in three installments
-
The second child (only if it's a girl): ₹6,000 paid in one instalment
-
Total benefit of ₹11,000 per eligible family
