New High Commissioner to Canada

  • India has announced the appointment of Dinesh K. Patnaik, currently serving as Ambassador to Spain, as the next High Commissioner to Canada.

  • Mr Patnaik is a 1990-batch Indian Foreign Service officer.

  • He was First Secretary at the Canadian High Commission in India and Nepal.

Diamond League, Zurich, Switzerland

  • World and Olympic javelin champion Neeraj Chopra secured second place at the Diamond League Final in Zurich, Switzerland. Chopra came through with 85.10 metres, clinching the runner-up spot.

  • Germany’s Julian Weber dominated the competition with a personal best and world-leading throw of 91.51 metres, securing the gold.

  • Each javelin thrower has six attempts.

Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships

  • In the men’s 79kg category Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships, Ajaya Babu Valluri clinched a gold medal, in Ahmedabad. With this Babu qualified for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year.

  • In the women’s 69kg final, Harjinder Kaur secured bronze.

16th Asian Championship

  • In shooting, India clinched a double gold in the Men’s 25-meter Standard Pistol events, both individual and team, at the 16th Asian Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.

  • In the individual event, Rio Olympian Gurpreet Singh won his first-ever international gold, while Amanpreet Singh took the silver.

  • The duo, along with Harsh Gupta, also secured the team gold in the same category.

  • The country won gold in the 50-meter Rifle Prone Junior Team and the 25-meter Standard Pistol Junior Team events. 

  • 50-meter Rifle Prone - Sami Ulah Khan, Adriyan Karmakar, and Kushagra Singh Rajawat

  • 25-meter Standard Pistol Junior Team - Suraj Sharma, Tanishq Naidu and Mukesh Nelavalli

  • India’s overall medal tally at the championship has climbed to 82 medals, including 44 gold, 20 silver, and 18 bronze

India received its 1st Mondo Track

  • India has received its first Mondo track (a world-class synthetic surface used in top international athletics events) on the occasion of National Sports Day.

  • India has become the 25th nation to have a mondo track.

  • The new track will provide Indian athletes with world-class facilities.

  • India has submitted a letter of intent for the Commonwealth Games 2030. The country has also submitted its bid to host the Olympics 2036.

  • India and Bhutan have signed an MoU on Technical Cooperation in Agriculture and Allied Sectors in Thimpu.

  • The signing of MoU represents a significant milestone in the enduring partnership between India and Bhutan. This reflects the two countries shared commitment to food security, sustainable farming, and rural prosperity. 

  • The MoU will serve as a framework for collaboration in various areas including agricultural research and innovation, livestock health and production, post-harvest management, value chain development, and the exchange of knowledge, skills, and expertise.
