Lunar Module Launch Vehicle

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is working on its most powerful rocket yet, called the Lunar Module Launch Vehicle (LMLV).

This rocket is expected to be ready by 2035.

It will be used for future Moon missions, including India’s first crewed Moon mission planned for 2040.
The LMLV will be able to carry up to:

27 tonnes to the Moon

80 tonnes to low Earth orbit (LEO)

Kerala Becomes India’s First Fully Digitally Literate State

Kerala recently achieved a landmark in India’s digital journey by becoming the first fully digitally literate State.

This milestone marks the successful completion of the first phase of the Digi Kerala project.

Nepal Joins International Big Cat Alliance for Conservation

Nepal officially joined the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA).
-
IBCA is a global conservation initiative led by India.
-
It focuses on protecting seven big cat species (tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, cheetah, jaguar and puma) around the world.
-
Nepal is home to big cats like the snow leopard, tiger, and common leopard.
-
By joining IBCA, Nepal is helping strengthen global efforts to protect these important animals.

Maitree Exercise 2025

The 14th India-Thailand joint military exercise 'Maitree' will take place from 1 to 14 September 2025.
-
It will be held at the Foreign Training Node in Umroi, Meghalaya.
-
This is the first time in five years that the exercise is being held in India.
-
Exercise Maitree began in 2006 as an annual bilateral military exercise between the Indian Army and the Royal Thai Army.

Sundarbans Tiger Reserve

Sundarbans Tiger Reserve (STR) in expanded in West Bengal.
-
The National Board of Wildlife (NBWL) approved the addition of 1,044.68 square kilometres to the reserve.
-
With this expansion, STR now covers a total area of 3,629.57 square kilometres.
-
It is now the second-largest tiger reserve in India, after the Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve in Andhra Pradesh.

Surya AI

NASA has launched Surya, a powerful AI model to improve space weather prediction.
-
It was developed in partnership with IBM.
-
Surya was trained using 9 years of data from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory.
-
It can give early and accurate warnings about solar flares and eruptions.
-
These solar events can affect satellites, power grids, flights, and GPS systems on Earth.
-
NASA has made Surya open source to encourage global teamwork in protecting against space weather risks.

Pampa River Conservation Under National River Plan

The central government has taken steps to bring the Pampa River under the National River Conservation Plan (NRCP), with the goal of protecting it from pollution and environmental degradation.
-
The Pampa is the third-longest river in Kerala, flowing 176 kilometres. It originates from Pulachimalai Hill in the Western Ghats. The river passes through the districts of Pathanamthitta, Idukki, and Alappuzha. Known as the ‘Dakshina Bhageerathi’ or the Ganga of Kerala.
-
The river is closely linked to the Sabarimala temple and festivals like the Maramon and Cherukolpuzha conventions.

Advanced stealth frigates Udaygiri and Himgiri

The Indian Navy will commission the advanced stealth frigates Udaygiri and Himgiri at Naval Base, Visakhapatnam.

Udaygiri, built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai and Himgiri, constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata.

Asian Shooting Championship

India has crossed the 50-medal mark and is leading the medal tally at ongoing 16th Asian Shooting Championship in Shymkent, Kazakhstan.
