Asia’s First Woman Train Driver Rekha Yadav to Retire

  • Asia's first woman loco piolet, Rekha Yadav, will retire on September 30.

  • She began her career with the Pune-Mumbai Deccan Queen Express and went on to drive freight trains, local trains, long-distance trains like the Rajdhani and Vande Bharat.

  • She worked in the Indian Railways for 36 years.

USA Increases H-1B Visa Fee by $8.8 Million

  • The U.S. has increased the H-1B visa fee by $8.8 million. This fee applies only to foreign applicants whose employers bear the visa cost.

  • This is considered a step to protect American jobs. The new rule will be effective for the fiscal year 2025.

Tamil Nadu Becomes First Indian State to Appoint Women SHG Members as Volunteers

  • Tamil Nadu became the first state in the country to appoint women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as volunteers to help citizens access government schemes.

  • Around 1.5 lakh women are working as volunteers in the state. They receive training and easy access to loans in return.

Project Vijayak

  • Began in 2010 to improve road and bridge infrastructure in Ladakh.

  • Project under Border Road Organisation

  • It marked its 15th Raising Day in September 2025 at Kargil, Ladakh.

  • Over 15 years, Project Vijayak has constructed and maintained more than 1,400 km of roads and 80 major bridges.

  • A landmark achievement was the reopening of the Zozila Pass.
