Parliament passes Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025

  • Parliament has passed the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025

  • This Bill encourages e-sports and online social games while prohibiting harmful online money gaming services, advertisements, and financial transactions related to them.

  • It has the provision for the appointment of an Online Gaming Authority for coordinated policy support, strategic development and regulatory oversight of the sector.

  • The objective of the Bill is to protect individuals, especially youth and vulnerable populations, from the adverse social, economic, psychological and privacy related impacts of such games.

  • A provision of complete ban on offering, operating, or facilitating online money games.

  • A provision of imprisonment up to three years and fine up to one crore rupees or both in case of violation of the law related to online money gaming.

  • The bill has three segments namely E sports, online social games and online money games. Government will promote E sports and online social gaming.

Two observers for VP election

The Election Commission of India has appointed two observers for the upcoming Vice-Presidential Election.

  • Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, Sushil Kumar Lohani and

  • Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, D. Anandan

The Vice-Presidential Election will be held on the 9th of next month.

This will be the 17th Vice Presidential election.

Article 66: Election of Vice President

  • The Vice-President is elected by an Electoral College, which consists of the members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha (including 12 nominated members)

  • The NDA has nominated C.P. Radhakrishnan as its Vice-Presidential candidate, while the opposition INDI bloc has put forward former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy for the position.

  • World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) Bazaar, a digital B2B Marketplace, Launched in Melbourne.

  • Intent was signed between National Film Development Corporation of India and National Film and Sound Archive of Australia for Cooperation in Film Presentation and Archival Exchange.

First test flight of Gaganyaan in December

  • ISRO will conduct first test flight of Gaganyaan in December this year.

  • Gaganyaan is progressing well as 80 percent tests or around 7700 tests have been conducted so far, and the remaining 2300 test will be completed by March next year.

Other Projects of ISRO:

  • 6500-kilogram communication satellite of USA will be launched from Indian launchpad.

  • 13 terabits of data from Aditya L1 have been provided to the scientific community through this year.

  • ISRO corrected the LOX leakage observed in the first stage of Falcon-9 Rocket, avoiding catastrophic failure in Axiom-4 Mission.

NASA Discovers 29th Moon of Uranus, Named S/2025 U1

  • James Webb Space Telescope has discovered a new, 29th satellite of Uranus, which was named S/2025 U1.

  • A team led by the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) identified the moon on the 2nd of February 2025, expanding the planet’s known satellite family to 29.

  • The diameter of the Moon is estimated to be only some 10 kilometres. And orbits the planet at a distance of about 56,000 kilometres.

  • Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed captain and Shubman Gill has been appointed vice-captain for the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE.

  • Women’s Asia Cup to be held in Hangzhou, China. 20-member Indian women’s hockey team, Salima Tete as captain

  • Men’s Asia Cup to be held in Rajgir, Bihar. 18-member Indian men’s hockey team, Harmanpreet Singh as Captain.

Asian Shooting Championships in Shymkent, Kazakhstan

  • The Indian men’s air rifle team of Arjun Babuta, Rudrankksh Patil, and Kiran Jadhav clinched the gold medal in men’s 10m Air Rifle.

  • Mansi Raghuwanshi won the gold medal and Yashasvi Rathore claimed bronze in the women’s junior skeet competition.

  • In women’s 55kg category, Reena settled for silver and in 76kg category, Priya Malik also claimed silver.

  • Sumit Malik settled for a silver medal in the men’s 57 kg category.
